Prayer for Dominican Laity Vocations
DOMINICAN LAITY
SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES PROVINCE
Prayer for Dominican Laity Vocations
Loving Lord, through the intercession of our holy father Dominic, our sister Catherine of Siena, and our brother Martin de Porres, raise up vocations to our Province. Send Your Holy Spirit to guide and inspire the hearts of men and women to follow in the footsteps of our holy father Dominic, our sister Catherine of Siena, and our brother Martin de Porres.
Strengthen us in our vocation for preaching and service to God’s people. May our lives always witness to others the gifts of our common life as Lay Dominicans. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen

We say thanks to them for generously offering their talents to the service of their sisters and brothers in the Province. Let us keep them in our prayers.
We also have an approved Provincial Mission Statement;
The Lay Dominicans of the Province of St. Martin de Porres, as a fruit of our baptism, are Catholics
called by God to a vocation in the Order of Preachers. We live the four pillars of Dominican spirituality
through community, prayer, study, and preaching with our words and actions. We celebrate our
way of life by serving others through the truth and power of God's love.
The delegates of the LPC were very talented** and a full reporting of their work will be sent out as soon as the meeting minutes are finalized. We attribute our accomplishments to the blessings of the Holy Spirit giving us wisdom and a cooperating spirit.
Past Provincial President (Thank you Jesus), Bruce
** If you want to know about the talents of the LPC delegates in terms of entertainment you should ask your delegate. As a clue let’s just say that Dancing Dominicans would be an apt description.
Lay Provincial Council Meeting January 27, 2011
Dear Chapter Presidents/Delegates
April, 2010
Dear Presidents, Delegates, and Contact Persons,
The Lay Provincial Council met in New Orleans from January 27, 2011 through January 30, 2011, thus it is with great pleasure that I send you the minutes from the meeting.
It is with great humbleness and appreciation and pleasure that I send to you the minutes from the Lay Provincial Council meeting that occurred in New Orleans from January 27 through January 30, 2011. The enclosed packet contains information as to how we plan to govern our Lay Dominican Province for the next three years, with the help of the Lord Jesus Christ through his Holy Spirit and of our father Dominic. Our time together was much work plus fellowship and rejoicing. I hope that all who were present were inspired and enjoyed the week-end as we grew together and witnessed the Dominican tradition continue to unfold during this time together.
The work that was accomplished was extensive and informative. The fruits of our labors culminated in the election of new officers for 2010-2013. They included Provincial President - Mrs. Jo Ann Cotterman, O.P. (St. Dominic Chapter, LA, msymajo6@aol.com); Provincial Vice-President – Mrs. Lana Bastin, O.P. (St. Cecilia Chapter, TN, bastins2@yahoo.com); Provincial Treasurer – Mrs. Amy Haney, O.P. (St. Thomas Aquinas Chapter, TX, amy.e.haney@gmail.com); Provincial Secretary – Ms. Debra Mattison, O.P. (St. Martin de Porres Chapter, NC, debra_mattisondjb@yahoo.com). Fr. John Lydon O.P.( jlydon.tulane@yahoo.com) will continue as the Provincial Promoter of the Dominican Laity.
Blessings,
Mrs. Theresa Alvarez, O.P.

Mike Bordelon
Please pass on the need for support of a fun -filled Sunday May 15th for my cousin and his family.
Tragically, on February 5th of this year as Mike Bordelon headed home after work from Liuzza's restaurant, he was waiting at a red light on Canal Street when a drunk driver traveling 80 miles per hour slammed into the back of his car, ramming it into an iron gate. Mike was in a coma and in intensive care.. Three weeks after the accident he was transferred to another hospital for physical therapy and now faces many more months if not years of rehabilitation in dealing with his traumatic brain injury. Michael’s insurance has maxed out and the drunken driver (an eight-time DWI offender!) only had $25,000 worth of coverage which has yet to be collected.
Liuzza Palooza 2011 will take place across the street from Liuzza’s on Bienville on Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 11am to 5pm. Gifts for the silent auction are much appreciated. Monetary donations are tax deductible as they are being accepted through the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation, a 501c3 organization. 100% of the money donated through the foundation is dedicated to offset Michael’s medical and rehabilitation costs.
To give you a small idea of what we have in store,
*Rockin’ Dopsie has generously committed to perform at the festival, and several other talented musicians are interested in performing.
*top chefs and restaurants ( Galatoire's and Drago's are two that I know of) donating time, talent, and treasure to make this a culinary celebration.
*The Taste Buds will be on hand, giving live cooking demonstrations throughout the day featuring the world’s best, fresh Louisiana Seafood and other local ingredients.
This is truly a worthy and needy cause. Whatever you feel called to do would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your prayerful support.
Gratefully, MA
